GHQ Leopard 2A6 A fine model from GHQ, with fine detail. ![]() ![]() CinC Leopard 2A5 Crosses are from the GHQ West German and Canadian decal set A top view, showing the large, distinctive turrets. GHQ Leopard 2 MBT using two different painting techniques. I have been trying to make an improved version of the Leo 2. Here are several with on-board baggage and brass MG3s added. The MG3s are 22 gauge brass wire with the end pounded flat with a hammer to look like a stock. Doesn't show well in this photo. Here's an alternate monochrome scheme with extensive washing and weathering. I really need a better photo here... GHQ Leopard 2 With Base Part of a recently painted and mounted Panzer Brigade Here is the new (circa 2017) GHQ Leopard 2A4 along with the original 2A1 model. The difference is not significant. ![]() ![]() ![]() CinC Leopard II Not quite in the same league as its GHQ counterpart. These are painted with the Vallejo multi-color NATO tricolor set from Vallejo, which includes highlight colors for the camos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ISM Leopard 2 An interesting model that appears to be based on the CinC Leopard II GHQ Leopard 1A4 ISM Leopard 1A4 Not a bad model at all; I believe it is based on the CinC 1A4. However, I can't really account for the armor on the turret. There were apparently two different hulls (at least, there were when I bought them off of eBay) ISM Leo 1's exiting a village GHQ Leopard 1 eBay rebuild -- barrel is plastic from evacuator on out. Decal is GHQ. ![]() ![]() CinC Leopard 1 -- eBay rebuild (notice a trend?) -- barrel is plastic rod wrapped with masking tape. Crease isn't noticeable at a distance. Another CinC Leopard 1 ![]() ![]() CinC M48A2G2 An excellent model -- CinC's M48/M60 chassis is excellent, and this turret works well. H&R M-47 ![]() ![]() ![]() GHQ's Version ![]() CinC Model ![]() M-41 Older model from an unknown manufacturer. ![]() ![]() H&R TH-301 This is a conversion of the Argentine TAM -- a medium tank based on the Marder chassis. Throughout the 1980s, Thyssen Henschel marketed an upgraded version to the Bundeswehr as a reconnaissance tank under the designation TH-301. JagdLeopard 3D-printed model from Shapeways of an experimental vehicle. Definitely could have used a better quality of printing. ![]() ![]() |
APCs & IFVs |
GHQ Puma IFV An astounding new model -- most noticeable for its size. Decals are from I-94. ![]() ![]() Here's the Puma, looming over a group of Cold War era GHQ West German vehicles ![]() Boxer APC GHQ Model ![]() ![]() ![]() Boxer IFV GHQ Model ![]() ![]() ![]() GHQ Marder 1A3 GHQ Marder 1A2 GHQ Marder 1A2 with a different paint scheme. The above used Tamiya NATO Green, Black and Brown. This version uses Tamiya NATO Green, PollyS Scale Black, and Vallejo Beige Brown. There's a lot more contrast in colors, and I think the brown is closer to the actual color, although probably too light. Three Marders -- CinC Marder 1A1, GHQ 1A2 and 1A3 CinC Marder Represents an early version of the vehicle, with wire gun added ![]() ![]() ![]() Early Marder by unknown manufacturer Actually a very nice model. Just below GHQ in quality, but no markings on the base. It could very well be an early GHQ version of the model. If anyone has any info, please let me know. CinC Fuchs followed by GHQ Fuchs An engineering variant is forthcoming. Another GHQ Fuchs And yet one more... This time with an Iltis. Buildings are from Gamecraft Miniatures, and my paint job does not do them justice. ![]() This is the H&R (I believe) version, which is not bad. ![]() ![]() BV-206S An excellent new model from H&R/Armstrong of the armored version of the BV-206. The figure in particular is a nice touch, though seems too big for the model. It is used by a number of NATO forces, including the Germans, so I painted it up in a generic NATO scheme. I used acrylic paste to make the snow, and fine sand for the gravel. ![]() ![]() ![]() HS-30 Early Cold War West German APC. Model is a 3-D version, designed by Dragoman and produced by Shapeways. ![]() ![]() Hotchkiss SPZ Kurz Also a Shapeways model by Dragoman's Depot ![]() ![]() These are the support versions from the same line Mortar Version ![]() Command Version (at least I think so...) ![]() Logistics Version ![]() Ambulance version ![]() |

Vehicles |
GHQ Fennek A newer model from GHQ, and extremely well done. ![]() Only now do I see the narrow windows on the side of the hull. ![]() Bent the mast on the top one... ![]() GHQ Luchs recon vehicle. This is a surprisingly large model for an armoured car, but is to scale. Same vehicle with a different set of paints, designed to lighten up the colors. Here is the less detailed Heroics & Ros version Wiesel The Wiesel was the mechanized vehicle for the West German paratroops that entered service just as the cold war ended. This model is from H&R (I believe). 20mm gun armed version TOW ATGM armed version Forward Observer version (speculative -- there was long an outstanding requirement for this vehicle, but IIRC, it was never actually built) |
Engineering
And Recovery Vehicles |
PioneerPanzers by three different manufacturers Upper left is GHQ, upper right is H&R (I believe) and lower is In Service Miniatures. The ISM piece is close to a copy of the GHQ piece, but with accessories added. Leopard II ARV Buffel An interesting model from Scotia. I like the spare engine on the deck. PioneerPanzer Fuchs This is the engineering variant of the Fuchs, with bins for barbed wire on the roof, a light machine gun mount, and additional exterior stowage. The original model is GHQ with metal and lead accessories. I painted the windows gloss black, but I think they are too black and insufficiently glossy after finishing them. Another version, I believe from H&R; clearly not quite as detailed. ![]() Leopard Biber Bridgelayer A custom built model with a GHQ Leo 1A1 hull, a bridge from the Scotia Biber (along with the commander's cupola), the crane from an old battleship model, and a few pieces of brass and stock plastic. M48 AVLB Basically a GHQ M48 hull with an M60 AVLB bridge, which is probably incorrect for the model, but I was unable to find an decent photos. The vehicle was still in use in some territorial units (and the 6th PzGd Division) at the end of the Cold War. Skorpion Minelayer This is a conversion of a CinC M548 to the Skorpion rapid minelayer. The parts are all stock plastic. The launchers were textured by pressing them hard against the textured grip of an Xacto knife. CinC's M548 is better than GHQ's for conversions because the two canvas pieces are optional. The ISM Version -- a bit rough ![]() Another version of the same... ![]() ISM PioneerPanzer "Dachs" Like many ISM models, this one was built on speculative photos published in defense magazines. The final version of the Dachs had only one crane arm. Still, its a cool model. |
Artillery
and Air Defense |
Panzer Haubitze 2000 A massive model from GHQ, very impressive ![]() ![]() GHQ Marder With Roland GHQ Gepards These are eBay rehabs, and the guns are of an incredibly soft, but flexible material. I'm not even sure its metal (I didn't want to strip them down for fear of damaging them). GHQ PanzerMorser 120 (actually an M106, but they are close to identical except for mortar size) No idea where the machine gun got off to. Here's a later (and better) version with a decal from a Dragon 1/144 kit and a CinC M2HB Scotia TAM Mortar Actually a Argentine model, but built to a German design. CinC LARS 110mm Rocket Artillery Decal is again GHQ. This vehicle, like many CinC truck-based models, comes in about 6 pieces, which allows a far higher level of detail. A comparison between CinC's LARS and the H&R version, which is not yet stripped and painted (I have since sold the H&R versions on eBay) GHQ MLRS Same as the US version, but with a West German decal from a 1/144 Dragon kit GHQ M109A2 with a CinC M2HB Skytrex Lance Launch Vehicle |

GHQ Jagdpanzer Jaguar (1 or 2) Tank Destroyer CinC JagdPanzer SS-11 (At least I think it is CinC) ![]() ![]() H&R Jaguar (1 or 2) Tank Destroyer I attempted to dress them up with netting and baggage GHQ Jagdpanzer With SS-11 GHQ Jagdpanzer Kanone Tank Destroyer All five of these that I have will be getting decals. I am also working on converting several H&R models into divisional artillery vehicles. Jagdpanzers in pre-tri-color scheme. Decals just didn't work this time. CinC JagdPanzer Kanone H&R Jagdpanzer Kanone Tank Destroyer GHQ M577 in West German colors Decal is from Dragon 1/144 scale modern German kit (a great source of decals and parts) Antennae are nylon paintbrush bristles -- flexible, large enough to be seen, and dirt cheap. Model is an eBay rebuild. CinC M577 An interesting model, more sharply molded than its GHQ equivalent, but with less protruding detail. Also has the option of wooden plates to be attached to the side. ISM M577 |
Infantry |
I am currently using GHQ Modern US individual infantry for West German regulars, and Main Force Miniatures for territorials. GHQ Moderns ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A platoon-scale battalion ![]() Main Force Miniatures Infantry Not particularly good models, but look decent on the table and are virtually indestructible. |
Miscellaneous
Vehicles |
H&R Faun Elefant A very good model from Heroics & Ros (I believe). The level of detail is good and the casting style is clean and crisp. Why can't all their vehicles be this good? CinC MAN 5 Ton and 7 Ton Trucks Excellent models from CinC, but I wish they came with canvas tops GHQ MAN 5 Ton Trucks A fine model, comes only in covered version. Detail-wise, the CinC and GHQ versions are both excellent. Another version, with a better paint job and an ink wash H&R MAN 7 Ton Trucks A decent model, but not in the came category as the CinC or GHQ pieces ISM MAN 5 Ton Truck This model has pallets molded in the back. ISM MAN 7 Ton Fueler MAN Kat-1 Fuel Tanker GHQ model ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unimog 2 Ton Truck A fine model from GHQ ![]() ![]() Same model, different paint schemes ![]() ![]() Faun 912 Dumper An impressive model from Shapeways, designed by Masters of Military. ![]() ![]() Faun 908 With Trailer Another Masters of Military model. ![]() ![]() ![]() M113/Green Archer Custom-built from GHQ base. Please see the custom section for full details Fuchs/RASIT ground surveillance radar vehicle 9 per divisional recon battalion during the 1980s Model is CinC Fuchs with back hatch removed, hole drilled, radar assembly inserted, and replacement hatch slid off to one sie on the back deck. GHQ Iltis ![]() ![]() DJW Munga Light vehicle from Shapeways, designed by Masters of Military ![]() |
Helicopters
And Aircraft |
These are a pair of Viking Forge
UH-1s. I think the original models are by Collectair, currently
marketed by Scotia-Grendel, but I am not sure. The door
machineguns are 28 gauge brass wire. The decals are from various
DML 1/144 armor kits. The doors should say "HEER" in white
letters, but they are way too small to paint. Brass rotors are on
order from GHQ.
This shot gives a better view of the door gunner. PAH-1 BO-105 anti-tank helo that was a Cold War staple of the Bundesheer. Model is a good one from GHQ. ![]() PAH-2 Tiger A pair of the newer attack helos from H&R -- quite good models (though some pieces were missing in the bags from both). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() EC-135 New aircraft from H&R ![]() Bundesmarine Tornado Naval strike version of Tornado ![]() ![]() Luftwaffe Tornado GHQ Model with somewhat random collection of decals ![]() ![]() T-33 Light training aircaft with secondary ground-attack role, manufacturer unknown ![]() ![]() Same aircraft, now mounted, in a much better photo ![]() |
